Introduction

Limerick city – where the Shannon meets the sea. This artistic city marches to the beat of its own drum and it provides plenty of unique sights and experiences for your group activity or trip. From King John’s Castle to the Milk Market and all the museums and galleries in between. Limerick is full of culture, history and stories that every visitor to Ireland and the south west should experience.

6 Reasons to visit Limerick

  1. To see where the River Shannon flows into the Atlantic.
  2. Sample local delicacies and see the best artisan works in the famous Milk Market.
  3. To explore the history of King John’s castle.
  4. See Limerick’s history of poverty and struggle in the Frank McCourt Museum.
  5. To stand at the Treaty Stone.
  6. Head down to Adare to take in the gorgeous thatched cottages, ruined castles and the heritage centre.

Where to drink in Limerick

  • Dolan’s, Dock Road: A bit out of the centre but very worth the trek is Dolan’s, where trad music and other live music reign supreme. Highly recommended if you’d like to listen to some tunes on your group’s evening out in Limerick.
  • W. J. South’s Pub, the Crescent: If you’re after a quiet pint of proper Guinness with your group, then South’s is about as traditional as you can get.
  • Jerry Flannery’s, Catherine Street: In this proudly sporting city, there is no better sporting pub to check out than Jerry Flannery’s.

Getting to & around Limerick

Limerick can be reached by train (via Irish Rail) and bus (via Bus Eireann). If you’re flying in, then you can head to Shannon Airport, which is only a  30 minute drive to Limerick city. Once you’re in the city itself, the central area can easily be walked but there are plenty of local bus services if you want to check out some less central pubs and activities.

The best things to see or do for groups in Limerick

  1. Milk Market: Sample local delicacies and browse crafts from local artisans in this famous market.
  2. King John’s Castle: Learn about Cork’s tumultuous history, sieges and more in this dominating landmark.
  3. The Hunt Museum: Discover Limerick’s history, from ancient times to today at this award-winning museum.
  4. Frank McCourt Museum: Whether you’re a fan of his writings or you just want to learn more about Limerick’s history of poverty and struggle, this museum is well worth a visit.
  5. The Treaty Stone: Said to be where the Treaty of Limerick was signed, this stone is a must-see landmark if you’re into your history.

When is the best time to travel to Limerick?

As a city focused on arts, music, literature and culture, Limerick is often busy with festivals and big events. So, when your group decides to travel will depend on if you’d like it to be a bustling city centre or that little bit quieter. No matter what you choose, Limerick will definitely put on a show.

Is Limerick expensive?

Limerick is one of the more affordable group holiday destinations in Ireland, so it’s a good choice if you’re looking to keep the budget low.

Do we need to pay a deposit to book?
